THE KENSAL Rise Library campaign has a new supporter.

A content cat has joined the swathes of local residents fighting to save the library, which is under threat along with five others in the borough.

The pet, who is thought to be called 'Rusty' and lives on College Road, has been going to the pop-up library every day when its owners to go work, in a bid to keep volunteers warm.

James Hogan, of Kensal Green, who is the vice chair of the Mayhew Animal Home on Harrow Road, said: "Because of the animal home I am always quite aware of animals. I was passing by Kensal Rise library on Friday and took these photos of Rusty... who has obviously decided to lend his support to the campaigners, as only a cat could. He is sitting on the lap of Sally Legge.

"I am a long-standing resident of Kensal Green and, like many people locally, I am aghast at Brent Council's decision to close this valuable community facility and the other five libraries across the borough, decimating the library service in the process."

Residents have been keeping the service going to their best ability through the use of the pop-up library, and have been allowing books to be borrowed despite the closure.

Rusty is said to be a calm member of the team, and is not at all fazed by the noisy delivery trucks that go past and the excited children who come to visit and borrow books.
