KIND Brent residentsare being asked to take a feline friend into their home while a new roof is built at a nearby cat rescue centre.
TheMayhew Animal Home, in Kensal Green, is asking people to help by takinga cat or kitten into their home while the work at the rescue centre'scattery is being carried out.
Staff and friends of the charity have been fund raising for the new roof for months.
They are close to reaching their target of s125,000, and construction is expected to begin in a couple of months time.
Aspokesman for The Mayhew said: "The current roof and guttering is in astate of disrepair, making the cattery stifling in the summer andchilling in the winter."
Thecharity already has a network of foster carers but "desperately" needsmore people to take temporary care of some of their animals between Mayand September.
Potentialfoster carers will need to commit to looking after one of The Mayhewscats or kittens for two or three months, with all costs and careequipment for the cats, such as bedding and food, covered by The Mayhew.
Thespokesman added: "Any contributions towards looking after the animalwould be greatly appreciated as the charity is solely reliant on fundsfrom the public to continue their work."
CarolineYates, The Mayhews CEO, said: We are delighted at the generosity ofall the people who have helped us raise the money for our new roof, butwe now urgently need to hear from anyone who could consider takingtemporary care of one of our cats, or kittens. It may only be for ashort time and our Animal Welfare team are on hand to provide lots ofsupport. But without temporary care, our cats will be faced with noreal place to call home.
