A FORMER Harrow police officer was convicted and sentenced for perverting the course of justice by wiping crucial CCTV footage of an assault.

Davinder Bajwa, 34, of Longfield Avenue, Southall, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Friday last week, to 15 months imprisonment after being found guilty for perverting the course of justice.

He was sentenced alongside his father, Pritptal Bajwa, 57, of the same address, who received 12 months.

The case related to an assault at a cab firm called Sunshine Radio Cars based in North Hyde Lane, Hounslow, run by Davinder and his father Pritptal.

The court heard the pair obstructed the investigation into the assault, which happened on December 26, 2009, by wiping CCTV footage of the incident.

Both men denied obstructing a police investigation and perverting the course of justice, but were found guilty on March 5 at Southwark Crown Court.

Davinder had been a PC for the Met Police Service and was based in Harrow at the time of the incident, but he resigned on February 10, 2010 – the day he was arrested.

The former police officer had registered a business interest with the cab company involved in the incident.

The investigation was led by the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards.
