A former adviser to David Cameron is also to fight Boris Johnson for the Uxbridge and South Ruislip candidacy.

Shaun Bailey, who was paid a reported £60,000 a year to advise the Prime Minister on youth, crime and race issues, was appointed after the 2010 general election but stepped down last year amidst controversy.

He claimed he had been sidelined by an Old Etonian clique. In February 2010, however, he was campaigning in Hammersmith with Old Etonian Boris Johnson – the man against whom he intends to run in Uxbridge – when he was the prospective candidate.

Mr Bailey was duly adopted by the Tories but lost to Labour’s Andy Slaughter. He has since gone on to run the charity My Generation.

The short list for the West London seat is due to be drawn up on Friday. Sixty-two people have applied, it emerged on Monday, September 1.

Shaun Bailey could not immediately be contacted for comment.

The news comes as another heavyweight was reported to have thrown his hat into the ring.
