A SOUTH Ealing pharmacy has celebrated its 110th birthday with around 50 of its loyal customers.

Daru Pharmacy in South Ealing Road held a party on June 6 with a lunch for customers of cake and sandwiches and a look back at their area's history.

Manager Pat Lovegood, who organised the festivities, said: "It was a really lovely day. I made a big poster with lots of pictures of old Ealing, which I got from the library. They go right back to the time when the pharmacy was first started. One of our customers, Dave Beadis, lent me some books as well which had lots of photographs and history.

"It was nice to see what the streets were like and we've got some beautiful pictures of South Ealing Road with all the old cars. Although it's a shame we don't actually have any pictures of what the pharmacy looked like then."

Known as The Buttery Chemist until it came under new ownership 10 years ago, the pharmacy has been going since 1903.

Pat said: "It only changed its name with the new owners when they took over 10 years ago. Unfortunately I'm not sure where the old name came from – I don't go that far back."
