A CAFE owner was fined £1,000 after his staff were caught on camera dumping rubbish outside the shop.

Sayed Tabibi, who owns W5 Café, in The Mall, Ealing, appeared at Ealing Magistrates' Court last Thursday and admitted 10 waste offences.

He was fined £100 for each offence and ordered to pay £1,131.20 towards court costs.

Between March and June this year, shop assistants were caught fly-tipping black sacks outside the cafe and other shops along The Mall and the contents linked the rubbish to the café.

Councillor Sue Emment, cabinet member for environment and street services, said: "Everyone has a responsibility to keep the borough clean and tidy and our officers make sure that businesses are fully aware of their duty.

"It just doesn't wash with us when they think they can get away with blighting the borough with their waste.

"It is a small cost to the business to sign up to our waste collection service, or they can employ a private contractor. It cannot be one rule for one business and another for everyone else."

Tabibi recently joined the council's pre-paid sack collection scheme.
