A HARD-WORKING team of helpers gave a spring clean to a Lisson Grove estate.

Fences and walls were repainted and flowers beds and shrubs were planted as part of a revamp of the Sheringham Estate, at the junction of Lisson Street and Bell Street.

The workforce was made up of residents, together with staff from Westminster Council's housing arm CityWest Homes and a member of Community Payback, a scheme offering offenders the chance to pay the community back for their crimes.

This was the first of a series of 'Leap into Action' events planned for areas across Westminster during the summer.

Further events are planned for Ainsworth House, in Fifth Avenue, Queen's Park, and Tollgate Gardens, in Maida Vale.

Mark Hoyland, chief executive of CityWest Homes, said: "We've had a great response from CityWest Homes staff and our partners to take part in these events.

"By all working together we'll be able to continue to develop a real community spirit in the area while at the same time carrying out work which will be of benefit."
