I AM writing regarding your article about potholes in Hillingdon (Our roads are going to pot, Gazette, March 10).
I would like to say that potholes are predominantly not repaired properly.
I have witnessed on one occasion a contractor leave his vehicle, cigarette in mouth, mobile phone against his ear, shovel some tarmac off his truck into a pothole without even cleaning out the debris and dust (not even squaring off the hole or even applying a liquid sealer to ensure filled material sticks). He then pushed the tarmac down with his feet and drove off without even whacking the tarmac with a vibrating plate. This pothole has been repaired on a number of occasions at whatever cost per time. If potholes were repaired properly the first time there would not be repeat visits.
I do wonder if the council is getting from the contractors some sort of a guarantee for repairs to at least last some time rather than the usual couple of weeks.
