ALFRESCO flicks attracted more than 500 people for Harrow Council's first Film On The Hill mini festival.

Three films with links to the borough were screened at the weekend, beginning with Slumdog Millionaire, starring Harrow actor Dev Patel, which was shown at Harrow Arts Centre, Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, last Friday.

The screening attracted an audience of 155.

The following day, almost 250 people sat in the sun to enjoy Bend It Like Beckham, which includes Harrow actors Ameet Chana and Archie Panjabi.

It was shown free of charge on a giant outdoor screen in Lowlands Recreation Ground, Lowlands Road, on Saturday.

Unfortunately, it was windy and rainy on Sunday for Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone, part of which was shot at Harrow School, and 150 braved the bad weather to watch the film in the same park.

Councillor Chris Mote (Conservative), portfolio holder for community and cultural services, said: "The weekend was a great success, with an unprecedented number of people coming to the outdoor screenings.

"One key council initiative is to build stronger communities. This event given residents the opportunity to come together for a free day out."
