A routine call to a small fire on Sunday (November 5) resulted in a firefighter being injured.

The Wellesley Street incident, in Stepney, was deemed "unacceptable" by Tom George, London Fire Brigade's (LFB) director of operations.

He said: “We will not tolerate attacks on firefighters and we will be working with our colleagues at the Metropolitan Police Service to identify those responsible."

Officers from Tower Hamlets CID are investigating the incident.

A firefighter was attacked with fireworks at around 9:40pm while trying to carry out their work, according to the LFB.

The attack is one of just seven incidents of objects being thrown at firefighters over the past five bonfire nights, the LFB said.

Anyone with information should call 101 or to be anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
