A CAR which crashed into a house in West Ealing caused both a major fire and a power failure on Thursday afternoon (Feb 28).
Fire teams were called to the corner of Popes Lane and North Road just after 5pm, when the vehicle, which was reportedly stolen, hit an electricity supply box, shorting out power to the homes nearby for several hours. The car caught fire soon after the collision and two men who had been inside the vehicle fled.
Rhiannon Hackman, who lives nearby, said: "I was just about to go out when all of a sudden I heard a huge band. A few moments later I went outside and saw the streets were filled with black smoke."
A spokeswoman for London Fire Service said a fire rescue team was dispatched but no-one appeared to have been in the house that was hit. No-one is believed to have been seriously hurt.
More on this as we get it.
