SIX fire engines and around 30 firefighters tackled a blaze at a soccer centre in Ruislip. Firefighters from Northolt, Wembley, Harrow, Ruislip, Fulham and Stanmore stations attended the fire at Goals Soccer Centre, in Victoria Road, South Ruislip, at 3.20am on Sunday (26).

The fire was under control by 5.40am and about 10 per cent of the single storey detached building's exterior was damaged, most of which was wooden cladding.

Dominic Knight, regional manager of Goals, said: "There was no one there at the time so you have got to thank your lucky stars for that.

"We are still trading as normal because it was basically superficial damage to the outside of the building and it's easy to repair.

"Luckily enough the firefighters got down in time and they did a sterling job.

"We think it was started by a cigarette in a waste paper bin because we had a function on that night."

However, the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
