A BLAZE has destroyed a flat above Artisan coffee shop in King Street in the early hours of this morning (21).

London Fire Brigade (LFB) sent six fire engines and 35 fire fighters to the fire after they were called to the flat just before 5am.

They confirmed three women and one man had escaped from the flat before the fire brigade arrived and one woman had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance after suffering from an asthma attack.

A spokesman from  LFB said: "We were called at 4:56am to a fire at the junction of Goldhawk Road and King Street. We sent six fire engines with 35 fire fighters and officers, they managed to get the fire under control by 6:30am and were ensuring it was safe until 8:54am.

"Three women and one man managed to escape before fire crews got there but the second floor was severely damaged and the roof was destroyed."

Goldhawk Road and King Street were closed during morning rush hour and there were severe delays in Chiswick High Road, with Goldhawk Road still closed at 9:30am.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
