HOUNSLOW'S fire chief has urged jubilee revellers to celebrate safely this weekend.

Stuart Low, the London Fire Brigade's borough commander for Hounslow, said it was important to remember fire safety when planning a street party, especially where street closures are involved.

"We want everyone to celebrate the Queen's diamond jubilee and if you follow our safety tips we won't be coming to your party," he said. "Sixty per cent of all accidental house fires start in the kitchen. Make sure you're not another statistic this weekend."

Mr Low's top tips include:

Don't be distracted in the kitchen. Unattended cooking accounts for more fires in people's homes than anything else

Don't leave a barbecue unattended and don't light it too close to sheds, fences or trees

Don't leave rubbish lying around after street parties because this is an easy target for would-be arsonists.
