More than 70 firefighters spent all day tackling a fire at a block of flats in Hounslow after rescuing 11 people.

60 people were evacuated from the blaze on Tuesday after emergency calls made at 9.19am prompted 15 engines from Feltham, Heston and other local stations to head to Bennett Close.

Eyewitnesses say they saw a baby being rescued from a window high up in the building to be reunited with its terrified mother.

The cause is still unknown, but fire brigade sources say at least 75 per cent of the roof has been destroyed and the first three floors of the block are damaged.
