Copy of letter sent to Ealing Council leader Jason Stacey

I AM writing to let you know how horrified and upset I was to hear that the beautiful, old and historical Passmore Edwards building in Acton is under threat of closure.

This building was given to the people of Acton as their library for all time. That a local council of any colour or creed should come along and decide to sell it for profit is appalling.

I hope that you will reconsider this scheme very quickly and find innovative and imaginative ways of incorporating this beautiful building into an upgraded library to fulfill the functions demanded in the 21st

century. However, if the council were to preserve this unique building and not sell it off so that it is lost to the people of Acton for ever then we would all benefit, not least future generations of readers.

I am frequently in this library and I know how well-used it is. The fact that it has been allowed to deteriorate so badly is not a good reflection on this present council or its officers.

This could be rectified by reversing this decision and retaining and refurbishing this lovely building.
