A YOUNG girl whose battle with cancer inspired her mother to help others affected by the disease has died.

Liesel Angel Appiah-Boakye, of Maple Way Feltham, died last Friday (February 3), aged just three, only two years after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

She appeared to have beaten the rare but deadly form of cancer, following a pioneering treatment, only for it to return with a vengeance late last year.

The youngster's 'miraculous' recovery inspired her mother Lovia Ofori-Agyemang to set up the Liesel Angel Trust, which she hopes to officially register as a charity soon.

She wanted to support other families affected by the disease, offering basic services like help with shopping and laundry as well as improving access to treatment worldwide.

Ms Ofori-Agyemang told the Chronicle this week she hoped Liesel would live on through the group's work.

"My miracle didn't happen but the trust must continue its work to help other families," she said. "Liesel was a very, very strong fighter, who held on much longer than doctors predicted, and I'm very proud of her.

"I will always remember her as a little angel who flew away too soon but who leaves a legacy which will help many others. I want her name to live on forever."

Liesel joined the nursery at St Michael and St Martin Primary School, in Belgrave Road, Hounslow, last year.

A cake sale at the school in October helped raise £300 for the trust but it is still well short of the £5,000 needed to register as an official charity.

LIESEL'S funeral will take place at St Michael & St Martin Church, in Bath Road, Hounslow, on Monday (February 13) at 11am.

It will be followed by a memorial fundraising event, including music and refreshment, next door at St Mark's Catholic School, from 1.30-4.30pm.

Former Brentford striker Lloyd Owusu and his sister, England 400m runner Lesley Owusu, will be among the guests at the fundraiser.
