A 300 mile cycle ride from London to Paris is being tackled by a Feltham couple to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
Jamie Henderson, 27, and Ellie Young, 29, of Ashford Road, are hoping to raise more than £2,500 for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust.
The couple decided to sign up for the challenge, which starts on July 27, because Miss Young and her mother Beverly both suffer from the condition, which affects the central nervous system.
Mr Henderson, a supply teacher, said: "We both previously did a half marathon for the MS Society, but Ellie can't really do the running any more so we decided to look for something that she could do.
"We were looking at the MS Trust website and we saw this London to Paris bike ride. Because Ellie has been diagnosed fairly recently it became even more significant to us. We are really looking forward to it."
The London to Paris cycle ride is spread out over five days and four nights.
It will depart from Crystal Palace on the first day, where the group of fund raisers will cycle 95 miles through the Kent countryside to Dover for a ferry crossing to Calais. Day two will see them travel from Calais to Abbeville through quaint villages and the market town Desvres, for 75 miles. On day three they will ride from Abbeville to Beauvais, following the river Somme on a 70 mile route, and on day four they will journey the final 60 mile leg to Paris
On day five the cyclists will have some time to soak up the city before catching the Eurostar home.
The couple are undertaking a gruelling 17 week training programme to prepare themselves for the ride.
Miss Young, a children's centre manager, said: "Being diagnosed with MS when I was 27 was not the best news, however I reminded myself that it could be worse and got on with it the best that I could. My mum also has MS and so I had a great role model in her as to how to cope with the daily struggles of fatigue, pins and needles in my left arm and leg and the painful daily injections that I have to carry out.
"So because of my situation and thousands of others, myself and my fabulous boyfriend, Jamie try and raise money for the MS trust who do such fabulous work in supporting those people with MS. It is likely that I will not have too many more opportunities to attempt an event like this and so any help or support would be greatly appreciated."
