OVER Christmas, I was visited by friends who showed me a copy of the Harrow Observer, dated June 18, 2009, in which a letter appeared under the headline 'Can anyone help my family tree?', from a P J Stanley of Harrow.

The letter referred to Eliza Kemp of 97 Mayo Road, Willesden' Ivy Peacock, Robert Frederick Miller and Samuel Miller, a railwayman.

I was absolutely astounded as these names are known to me through a decade of family research.

I am the grandson of Samuel Miller, actually Samuel Edgar Miller BEM, who received his civic award for his services as inspector to the then king's train.

He is also accredited as being part of the footplate team that rode The Princess Elizabeth on a recordbreaking run to Edinburgh, only to break his own record the following day on the return trip!

I have newspaper cuttings galore and am the proud owner of a commemorative clock presented to him in honour of his achievements.

So now to hear of a distant relative somewhere in Harrow is great news, and I would dearly love to meet P J Stanley to shake a friendly family hand that I never knew existed.

I can be contacted through the newspaper and will be most grateful to whoever can assist.
