No fewer than five members of the same family are shaving their heads for charity, with one travelling all the way from New Zealand for the "grand shedding".

Anthony Hall, who is fighting cancer, will go under the clippers in Brentford on May 10 alongside his two brothers, brother-in-law and nephew.

They are raising money for The Mulberry Centre - a cancer charity in the grounds of West Middlesex Hospital, Isleworth - which the 61-year-old father-of-two described as an invaluable source of support.

Mr Hall was diagnosed in November 2013 with the blood disorder high risk myelosdysplastic syndrome and his since been undergoing chemotherapy to prevent the condition developing into acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

"My wife Linda and I are so grateful for the support we have received from The Mulberry Centre, including counselling and massage therapy, and I wanted to raise funds so they can continue to help people affected by cancer," said the former call centre employee, who lives in Brentford.

Robin Hall's impressive crop of hair, which will be no more after May 10

"My brother Robin, who lives in New Zealand, has been growing his hair for more than a year in preparation for the grand shedding, and my other brother Jamie, my brother-in-law Dirk Muller and my nephew Sebastien have all agreed to take part too" he added. "I'm so grateful to them all.

"I always used to have long hair and my brother's was short because he was in the Army, so it's weird to see that reversed, albeit not for much longer."

Robin - whose barnet now bears a passing resemblance to Kevin Keegan in his 70s pomp - and the others will be getting their heads shaved at Ross Poole Salon in Albany Parade, High Street, Brentford, on May 10, from 10am. The owners have kindly agreed to waive the charge since it is for a good cause.
