Vasile Burnar, 30, and his 29-year-old family member Ioan, also known as John, were each slapped with an £800 fine after admitting to committing fraud by making false representations in tax documents.

In their tax returns for the financial year of 2011/2012, Ioan claimed that he had incurred expenses amounting to £16,320.

Vasile claimed that he had spent £12,340 in expenses.

Both claims were false, but meant that they knowingly received reimbursements from the tax man of £3,849 and £3,666 respectively which were not owed to them.

They were later caught red handed however, and appeared at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on August 11.

Along with their fines, both men, of De Havilland Road, Edgware , also had to pay a victim surcharge of £80, and £170 in costs.
