A couple are relieved to be reunited with their six-month-old cocker spaniel 24 hours after he was taken from their parked car at Tesco on Feltham High Street.

Mike and Olga Morrison of Feltham endured a sleepless night on Monday (5), but were delighted to receive a phone call the following day to say their dog Madiba had been found in Sunbury.

A friend of the couple, Amanda Newman, of Ashford, who had printed and distributed flyers in the area, said she received a phone call from Spelthorne council to say the dog had been found yesterday (May 6).

She added: "He was found in Sunbury by a couple who kept him overnight and reported it to the local council the next day.

"The council then got the dog warden to collect the dog and take it to Battersea Dogs Home where they swiped him and found he was microchipped."

The couple paid £160 to release the dog which was "a little unjustified for a dog warden," said Ms Newman. "But he is well and safe and back home with his owners.

"They were so pleased to have him back home."

The Morrisons had just returned to the UK from a holiday abroad and had picked up their brood of five dogs before heading home.

They had just popped into the Tesco to buy some milk when Madiba was taken away from her family.

They are delighted to have everyone back home under the same roof.

Ms Newman thanked everyone that has offered their support, especially on Twitter.

Last week a chihuahua was found three days after it ran away during a dog walk in Hanworth.
