A HELICOPTER whizzing through the sky, mounted officers and a bomb disposal team were not leading a high adrenaline chase but the highlights of a police open day this weekend.

Ealing Police opened its doors to the public on Sunday (2) where residents got to speak to officers and learn what the force is doing to keep the borough safe.

Vintage police cars were on show at Ealing Police Station in Uxbridge Road, where tours were given by the Ealing Borough Cadets and youngsters even had the chance to drive robots from the bomb disposal unit. 

In Walpole Park, mounted officers greeted families while officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams were on hand to give tips on crime prevention. The London Fire Brigade also brought two fire engines where firefighters demonstrated life saving first aid techniques.

Acting Sergeant Ian Preston said: "So many aspects of the police's varied duties were on display and people seemed really fascinated by them. It was really good to see the local schools and youth groups at the event."
