ROSEDALE College welcomed primary school pupils for the first time, and is one of five schools that has installed temporary classrooms to take more children this school year.

Rosedale's executive principal Clive Neathey, and headteacher Niela Bamber were at last Tuesday's (6) unveiling of the new teaching rooms, which feature interactive white boards and various teaching aids.

Mrs Bamber said of the buildings: "They are light, bright, modern and airy, giving us everything we need to provide the best possible start for our children.

"Within a matter of weeks, the builders have turned a green field into amazing new facilities, giving us teaching spaces inside and out, for the children to enjoy and benefit from."

Rosedale College, in Wood End Green Road, Hayes, are taking on two forms of entry this year, and this will rise to three next September.

Up to 900 extra primary school places are needed by 2014, and Hillingdon Council is investing more than £100 million in the expansion programme.

A new school on land at Lake Farm Country Park, off Botwell Lane, Hayes, has been mooted as a possible long-term solution, and five other schools in the borough are upping their pupil intake this year after gaining extra teaching space.
