I AM writing to ask for your help.
Every year I watch people running the London Marathon and raising lots of money for good causes. I feel I ought to do the same, but there is a slight problem - I'm paralysed from the neck down, which makes running any distance rather tricky!
Consequently, I have decided to do a marathon of a different kind.
Over the coming weeks I'm going to be doing a poetry reading marathon in aid of Save the Children. I'm planning to read aloud the whole of the Ancient Greek epic, the Iliad - all 15,693 lines of it.
It would be wonderful if you could sponsor me. To donate, please go to my Justgiving page at http://original.justgiving.com/ victoriabrignell.
Donating through this site only takes a few minutes and is secure. I've chosen the Iliad because it is one of the most powerful accounts of the devastation and loss caused by war. Many of the families helped by Save the Children are victims of conflict.
Although I studied classics at university, my ancient Greek is rather rusty, so I will be using an English translation.
To prove that I've done the reading, I will be making a recording of it.
All donations are appreciated.
