Families can enjoy some sporting fun at a Wembley leisure centre's open day this Saturday.

Everyone Active, which operates Vale Farm Sports Centre in Watford Road, Wembley on behalf of Brent Council, is inviting locals down to enjoy demonstrations and to tour the facility following a £1.7million revamp. The day starts at 10am and runs until 6pm.

There will be family fun swimming sessions, group exercise classes in the new dance studio and indoor cycle studio, gym sessions in the new and extended gym and ladies-only sessions in the new 'target population' gym aimed at encouraging hard-to-reach groups to exercise.

Olympic swimmer and sports presenter Steve Parry is compering the day and Saracens RFC players will be signing autographs.

Adult classes visitors can have a go at include spinning, tai chi and a Legs, Bums and Tums toning keep-fit class while children can try trampolining, badminton, basketball, martial arts and urban gymnastic fad Parkour.

For the youngest there is a bouncy castle and children's entertainers.

Chris Williams, Everyone Active contract manager for Vale Farm Sports Centre, said: "“Our open day will offer something for everyone.

"With such a huge range of free activities on offer we’re urging the local community to get together with friends and family and try out some of the amazing new facilities and equipment on offer as a result of the £1.7 million improvement works."

Councillor Roxanne Mashari (Labour), Brent Council’s lead member for environment and neighbourhoods, said: "The council strives to offer good quality sports and leisure facilities to local people in order to encourage them to stay fit and healthy.

"Significant sums of money has been invested in making big improvements at the centre and offering more classes.

"I urge local people to come to the open day, where they will be able to see the transformation for themselves, as well as getting a free taster of the kind of activities which are on offer."

The Everyone Active-run Harrow Leisure Centre, in Christchurch Avenue, Wealdstone, held a similar open day recently following its revamp.
