Climate change campaigners and angry Heathrow residents are joining forces to hold the first anti-third runway conference.

HACAN, NoTRAG (No Third Runway Action Group), the Camp for Climate Action and Greenpeace will meet with the Climate Camp next weekend to discuss what to do if the government presses ahead with expansion plans after Ruth Kelly indicated a decision would be ready by the end of the year.

The half day event at Harlington Baptist Church in Harlington High Street on July 26 will see the likes of politicians including Baroness Jenny Tonge, the former Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park and the Labour member of the Greater London Assembly Murad Quershi discussing the topic: 'What do we do if the worst comes to the worst and the Goverment says 'yes'?'

The day after the event, on Sunday, July 27, the climate campers will set off from Sipson to Kingsnorth in Kent where this year's Climate Camp will run from July 4 - 11 .

John Stewart, the Chair of HACAN, said: "This conference will be a visible sign to the Government that its many opponents are working closely together.

"People coming from different backgrounds will be sitting down together to discuss a wide range of ways of continuing to oppose expansion, from letter-writing to direct action. What unites us is utter determination to win this battle."

Last August the Camp for Climate Action spent a week camped in a field in Sipson, the village that is set to disappear if the third runway is built.

The campaigners clashed with riot police as they descended on the BAA offices in Heathrow, leading to a number of arrests and injuries.
