Little Grassy was found by a member of the public cowering in a garden.

He was emaciated, covered in bite wounds which had caused a skin infection, and was also severely dehydrated and anaemic.

We got the call on March 23 and animal welfare officer Sarah Parkes was first on the scene.

She said: “He was so weak and in such poor condition, my first thought was that he would probably need to be put to sleep. He had no fight left in him and just let me scoop him up without any protest at all, despite the pain he must have been in.”

Sarah took him straight to the vets. Luckily Grassy is a real toughie and with lots of love, antibiotics and plenty of food, we are confident he is going to pull through.

Grassy didn’t have a microchip, which makes it almost impossible to trace his owners. We have put up posters in the local area and online, but if we can’t find his owners son he will be looking for someone to adopt him.

Sadly, Grassy’s story is all too common with unneutered tom cats. Without being neutered, male cats travel in search of females. As they travel further, they will be at risk of injury when crossing busy roads, or from fights when entering other cat territories. Many male cats roam too far and cannot find their way home.

“We see hundreds of cats like Grassy, who end up in a pitiful condition, which is so preventable,” said RSPCA's Aileen Scheers. “I can’t stress how important it is to neuter and microchip your pets. If something happens to them it means they have the best chance of returning home to you.”

Grassy is still receiving treatment. If you are a cat lover and would like to help Grassy on his road to recovery, please send a donation to RSPCA Middlesex North West Branch, 114 Field End Road, Eastcote, Middlesex, HA5 1RL, visit our website www.rspca-middlesex.org.uk or call Aileen on 020 8429 5604.
