Sir Elton John could be immortalised in a Harrow street name under new plans.

Following a report from the Local Government Network, published today, which encourages local authorities to celebrate their homegrown heroes more, Harrow Council has announced it is considering honouring Pinner's favourite son.

Deputy leader of Harrow Council Councillor Susan Hall said: "We are supportive of any initiative that supports pride in our streets and strengthens a sense of community.

"As long as local people back the idea, in Harrow we could look at Elton John Avenue or similar to mark the achievements of a true international achiever."

Sir Elton was born at 55 Pinner Hill Road, Pinner on March 25, 1947.

Other famous Harrovians who could be considered for street names include Kate Nash, Bob Holness, Claire Rayner, Simon Le Bon, Peter Andre, David Suchet, Dev Patel, Matt Lucas and Billy Idol.
