Ealing is one of the least boozy places in the UK after a survey found the borough has fewer drinking-holes per population size.

According to locallife.co.uk, an area guide for tourists and locals, there are 2,261 people per business selling alcohol, ranking the borough as the twelfth most sober spot nationally.

Westminster ranked the worst with a pub, off-licence or club serving alcohol for every 423 drinkers, compared to Yeovil in Somerset with a boozy business per 1,163 people.

Tony Martin, chairman of locallife.co.uk says, "After the excesses of Christmas, many people give their livers a break with a January detox.

"Temptation won't be a problem for residents of Ealing where licensed premises are thin on the ground.

"Beating the booze is hardest in Westminster where there's no shortage of hostelries.

"The survey is not a definitive portrayal of people's drinking habits, but it does give an indication of the number of alcohol related businesses in each area.

"It's clear businesses such as bars, clubs, pubs and off licences have to be supported by customers in order to survive."
