A GENRE-BENDING new live act have reached the regional final of a competition in the hope of landing a record deal.

The Karen Grace Band formed a year ago after lead singer, Karen Grace, started looking for band members to perform her album Metamorphosis.

Through friends she formed a seven-piece sessions band, playing the cello, drums, flute, keyboard and acoustic guitar with vocals.

The frontwoman, originally from Ealing, who now lives in Walton-on-Thames, said: “We're not pop. It would appeal to classical listeners, it's quite detailed. We're hoping to create a new genre.

“I don't really enter into competitions any more, it's really just to get people to hear our music. We're not a young band, we're more mature and we're an unusual line-up, we're not your typical rock band.”

Jo Warren, 32, of Fosse Way, West Ealing, plays guitar and does backing vocals.

She said: “The band has a sessions feel. Karen already had the album out and recorded. But now as a seven-piece, after this competition we hope to start writing some stuff together. I was in an Indie band and folk band before.”

The group will compete in front of judges from Kerrang, NME and Radio One, and a full audience at the Beck Theatre, Hayes, tomorrow (6) at the regional final of Live and Unsigned 2011. The winner will go on to the grand final at the London O2 to win a record deal and £50,000.
