MOUNT Carmel pupils have written to Ealing Council to request plastic recycling facilities.

Pupils and parents at the school in Little Ealing Lane penned 112 letters which local councillor Isobel Grant, handed over to Ealing Mayor Kamaljit Dhindsa last week.

And they had a positive response after the council said it will introduce the service to all schools and as a priority, Mount Carmel School will have a collection of plastic starting in the autumn. Funding is expected to come from central Government.

Cllr Grant said: "I was delighted to present the petition on behalf of the students and parents of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School. It was quite clear from their letters, that they felt strongly about this issue and understood the importance of recycling to help our environment."

She added: "It also teaches our young people a valuable lesson: if you care passionately enough about something, then champion its’ cause."
