NEVER mind Friday the 13th, Thursday the 16th is a very lucky day for one couple who shared a birthday and received the best gift of all this year – a baby.

As Fiona Hutchison and partner Matt celebrated their 43rd and 42nd birthdays together last week, the family beat odds of 133,225 to one when their first child arrived on the same day.

Freya Grace was born at 10.41am at Ealing Hospital, weighing in at 6lb 9oz.

Fiona, who used to work for British Airways at Heathrow, was due to have a scheduled caesarean section last Friday, but the operation was brought forward one day to the couple’s birthday.

Proud dad Matt, a marketing director, of Coningsby Road, Ealing, said nurses were cooing over the newborn when the couple told them the remarkable news.

“It’s very unusual to have our first child born on the same day. But it happens every so often,” he said.

“Lots of people at the hospital were saying how lucky it was but we’re a bit more rational about it.

“The c-section was originally booked on the 17th, then two days before the hospital said can we come in earlier. We just left it in the hands of the hospital.

“It’s wonderful to be a dad.”

The family are now settled at home as they get used to the prospect of many expensive birthdays to come.

Matt added: “We met at a leaving do for work at British Airways six years ago. Fiona didn’t believe me when I told her my birthday and made me show her my driving licence.”
