A SCHOOL breakfast has proved to be a big hit with students since starting up late last year.
Villiers High School in Southall started running the scheme in November and it has been growing steadily in popularity since then.
And the club got a visit on Friday last week from the Mayor and Mayoress of Ealing to see how it has benefitted students.
Jonathan Dow, assistant headteacher at the school Boyd Avenue said: “It has been clear to us for some time that many of our students are not having a healthy start to the day.
“I am aware of course that this is a national challenge. In conjunction with the school governing body we made the decision early last term to launch a breakfast club for students. This is something that we are covering the cost of.
“We have committed to this venture being secure into the future. We have absolutely no intention of not having a Breakfast Club at Villiers. On a personal level this is a venture that I am passionately committed to.
“Of course we will be exploring alternative funding streams should we, for example, be able to gain some sponsorship at a later stage.”
Mr Dow said the school is planning a number of schemes for the future, including working with local charities and establishing a food bank.
He added that they are also hoping to provide free school uniforms to all new students who have an entitlement to free school meals, and there are plans to strengthen links with parents and families through the setting up of a Parent-Teachers Association.
