People are free to join in the commemorations of the anniversary of VE Day in Ealing.

Ealing Council is inviting residents to take part in an event at Ealing Town Hall on Friday (May 8), to commemorate the end of the Second World War with speeches by dignitaries and a two-minute silence.

VE Day - or Victory in Europe Day - marks 70 years since the end of the conflict in Europe in 1945.

The historic day will be marked across the UK with three days of events, including a parade, service of thanksgiving and star-studded concert in central London. There will also be street parties and beacon-lighting taking place all over the country.

Ealing Council recently honoured those who gave their lives through conflict, by reviewing all local war memorials to keep them in good condition, so that residents can view them as part of the borough’s historic walks.
