With polling day getting closer, we are continuing our series giving political parties the chance to tell you why they should be in charge of Ealing council after May 22

Today Ealing Liberal Democrat leader Gary Malcolm gives his view on what needs to change.

NOW the election activity has formally started we can see why Ealing needs a Liberal Democrat council.

We are a party that campaigns all year around for residents, and not just for the month or two in advance of the election.

Liberal Democrat councillors are the hardest working, by attending their town hall meetings.

Recently Labour and Conservative party councillors were shown up in a Hanwell debate when a question was asked, ‘Why are you councillors not like the hardworking Lib Dem councillor Nigel Bakhai?’

Vote for Liberal Democrats and you get councillors who put residents first.

The Liberal Democrats are the only party putting vulnerable people at the heart of our manifesto.

We would not close day centres as many users are profoundly disabled and would suffer.

We would not spend money on bonkers schemes like car parks that no one uses.

We will also:

Freeze council tax and parking fees for the next four years.

Invest more in our roads and pavements.

Remove the garden tax and improve recycling rates.

Get our streets and parks clean by either removing or by firmly managing the contractor.

Ensuring that residents can get through to the council with enquiries.

Our policies and budgets have been costed and approved by the council’s chief finance officer.

Scared of an inevitable defeat, the Conservatives have again changed their parking policy which will cost us a lot every month.

The recent renegotiation by the Labour party to allow our waste contractor to get the same money for doing less is a scandal.

This failed contractor must pay back the hundreds of thousands of pounds they owe in unpaid fines for their poor standard of work.

A Labour council is a wasteful and inefficient council. Many have said that a Conservative council is one where cuts would occur harming the vulnerable.

So on May 22, if you are fed up with more of the same from the Labour party then vote Lib Dem and elect hardworking local councillors who will get things done for YOU.
