A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl from Ealing is to walk three miles to raise £600 for a cancer charity.

Ella Bolton, of Derwent Road, Ealing is taking part in the Hampstead Heath Woodland Walk on May 8 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Her mum, Kate Macauley, 29, who is working as a volunteer for the charity helping to organise the walk, has nominated her for one of the Gazette and Thames Valley Univerity's Pride in our People Awards.

She said: "When I mentioned that I was working this walk to Ella she said she wanted to do it. She was very keen to help those with cancer, especially as her step grandfather died of cancer and raise as much money as possible. Her father owns a shop in Cardiff and her fundraising efforts there are doing very well as well as having a justgiving page.

"I told her three miles is a long way and she has never done anything like this before, but she is determined and been practising by taking her grandparents' dog out for a walk.

"Ella is a very giving child such as putting her pocket money in charity boxes and making sure her old clothes go to charity. She would like to get £100 for every year of her age. She is very grown up for her age. I am so proud of her. It's fantastic that she is so aware of charity at the age of six."

Ella, who has collected £175 so far, said: "I want to raise lots of money to help poorly people be looked after and get better."

She will be joining hundreds of people on the walk which is expected to raise around £20,000. Macmillan's North London fundraising manager Callum Mackay said: “We are very grateful to Ella for taking part and I wish her the best of luck on the day."
