PLANS to improve Greenford and Pitshanger libraries have been given the green light.

As agreed by Ealing council’s cabinet last week, the reception areas at both locations will be remodelled to maximise space and develop access to services and new self service units will be installed to reduce queuing times.

Maintenance work will be carried out on the two buildings and a disabled toilet will be installed at Greenford Library.

Cabinet member for community services and safety, Councillor Ranjit Dheer, said: “This is a great step forward for both libraries and the improvements will hopefully encourage more local people to make use of the free services. We want to make all of our libraries places where people can discover the joy of books and reading, learn new skills and get involved in the community.”

A programme of work will be drawn up and work is expected to start later this year.

The council is investing up to £454,000 to carry out the refurbishments.
