A PRIVATE college appears to have shut down after its licence was revoked by the UK Border Agency.

The London School of Management, which specialised in sponsoring foreign students, provided a number courses in marketing and management.

But the school in Uxbridge Road, which borders Ealing with West Ealing, does not appear to have been in business since late last month and its phone has been cut off.

A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said its license for sponsoring overseas students has been revoked after failing to comply with obligations.

The spokesman said: “To prevent abuse of the visa system all licensed sponsors have to meet strict standards to make sure that they are providing a genuine education to genuine students.

“The London School of Management failed to meet its obligations regarding record-keeping, attendance and recruitment methods.”

Any foreign students at the site now have up to 60 days to find another sponsor or they will have to go home or face deportation. Although the UKBA has the power to revoke the site’s license, the decision to close to college rests with the school’s management.

Eric Leach, secretary for West Ealing Neighbours, said the closure represents a blow to the local economy. He said: “I understand there was something like 500 students at the school, each spending about £5,000 a year in the area.

“This is another dent in the local economy as all in all the students at the college spent about £2.5 million per year. The only upside to this is that there will be more space for accommodation, if that’s what it ends up being used for.”

The Gazette made repeated attempts to contact the college for a comment. At the time of going to press, no response had been received.
