THE Duke of Gloucester, Prince Richard, joined the Middlesex Association for the Blind on Tuesday to celebrate its 90th anniversary.

All nine boroughs involved with the association came together to mark the special occasion at Ealing Town Hall.

Throughout the afternoon, the Duke who is a patron of the charity, spoke to a number of clients and volunteers.

The organisation offers a range of support for visually impaired adults, from computer classes to home support.

Chief executive officer of the organisation, Andrew Cox, said: “Today is an opportunity to celebrate our existence but also to allow people to see what visually impaired people can achieve and what can be done.”

With funding from the 2010 Mayor of Ealing, a new tricycle was purchased so that members could go for an assisted ride around Gunnersbury Park.

Michelle Springall, supporter of the charity and keeper of the bike, said: “The bike is great, passengers can help me pedal and get to exercise in a safe way, they get the chance to talk naturally without worrying while I steer.”
