HUNDREDS of officers swooped on the borough in a series of raids discovering crack cocaine, heroin and even a gun.

Officers smashed their way into more than 20 addresses in Brent - including four in Station Road, Harlesden - following the intelligence led investigation.

Suspected packages of crack cocaine, cannabis, cash and a gun were found during the all day operation.

Search warrants were executed at 6am yesterday morning (June 30) and continued into the night. The raids were to combat the spate of drug dealing which has plagued the borough for many years.

The Observer was on the scene in Station Road, Harlesden, when the convoy of cops arrived in six police vans and busted their way into four flats at 5.45pm.

In one property, police found two cling film wraps of what is believed to be crack cocaine along with cannabis.

A man, who was in the small bedsit at the time of the sting, was also carrying a quantity of suspected crack and heroin. He was arrested and taken to Kilburn Police Station.

Just a hundred yards away, in a different flat, a woman was arrested in possession of what is believed to be crack and heroin. A relative was called to look after the woman's two-year-old boy.

Operations Chief Inspector Mike Hill said: "It has been a successful operation. We have already had more than 20 arrests. We look to do this kind of thing every couple of months.

"A lot of people want us to be doing this especially if they are living next to the problem. Drugs and guns is an integral part of gang life. We can't afford to walk away from it."

Safer Neighbourhood Teams will now distribute leaflets around the areas which have been targeted by police explaining what happened.
