FOUR men were arrested after sniffer dogs were used to find drugs outside Southall Rail Station last week.

Officers from Southall Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team and two dogs inspected passengers in South Road on Thursday.

As people left the station they passed the dogs, which are trained to sniff and detect drugs including cannabis, heroin and cocaine.

Three men, aged 18, 30, and 40, were arrested for possession of cannabis. Two received a formal caution and the 40-year-old was charged with possession of cannabis and will appear before Ealing magistrates on March 7.

A fourth man, Curtis Abraham Wiles, aged 28, was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis and having an offensive weapon. He appeared at Ealing Magistrates' Court on February 18 and admitted both charges.

Wiles will be sentenced on March 11. Sergeant Richard Moelwyn-Hughes, the team leader for Southall Green SNT said: "Controlled drugs blight people's lives in Southall and this operation will help stem this and make the area cleaner and safer for all."

He added that anti-drug operations will continue throughout the year.
