London employees swapped their keyboards for garden tools to support a local community park project in Dormers Wells , Ealing.

GVA volunteers teamed up with environmental charity Groundwork, which is working with Ealing Council to transform the Dormers Wells Moated Manor park on December 8.

Records suggest the park was once an estate owned by the treasurer to Henry VIII, however only traces of the estate remain.

Chris Whetstone, GVA’s Corporate Responsibility Manager, said: “We are delighted with how much we managed to achieve in the course of the day. The nature conservation activities we undertook will provide a new habitat for a wide range of wildlife, and will begin to present the park as a more pleasant place for the local community to enjoy.”

Volunteers helped clear overgrown vegetation around the park's pond, built bird boxes and organised a treasure hunt for 60 school children which taught them about the project.

The project will continue into 2015 and plans to transform parts of the park through volunteering over the course of next year.

Mr Whetstone said: “We look forward to continuing work with Ealing Council and the local community to conserve more of the local wildlife and unearth some more of the park’s fascinating history.”

There will also be a series of educational and heritage programmes to encourage participation from local people.
