THANKS for the story featuring Eddie Leahy and the team trying to mobilise the community in South Ealing against the prohibitively overpriced and unnecessary plans of Ealing Homes, a quango spin-off of Ealing Council, which have led to me getting an estimated bill for works for in excess of £13,000, most of which is for a replacement roof.
I am by no means unique - as your story says, such problems are fairly typical. The key detail is that as recently as 2007/08, Ealing Homes' own surveyor, Mouchel Parkman, decided only minor repairs were needed on the roofs and that most of the slate roofs met the Decent Homes Standard.
With the help of Eddie, Valerie and their team we fight on, and have raised this with our ward councillor. Yet Ealing Homes seems determined to visit misery and hardship on leaseholders, in the face of their own evidence, for reasons known only to themselves. Perhaps Ealing Homes
can send a senior decision maker to meet us, but given their woeful track record, I hold out little hope.
