COCOA farmers from Africa are coming to Harrow to offer people a taste of the chocolate their crops are used for.

Mavis Adu Gyamfi and Mercy Zaah from the Kuapa Kokoo co-operative in Ghana will be joining staff from Divine Chocolate in St George’s Shopping Centre in St Ann’s Road on Tuesday, from 1.30pm to 4.15pm.

The event is to celebrate both Fairtrade Fortnight, which is running until Sunday, March 9, and International Women’s Day next Saturday.

The women are flying in from Ghana to represent their co-operative of 80,000 farmers and Divine, the chocolate company they own.

The company’s Fairtrade products are sold in Oxfam shops and other stores such as The Co-operative in this country.

Samples of the chocolate will be available at the event.

A presentation will also be made to the congregation at Harrow Central Mosque in Station Road, Harrow, from 5pm to 7pm on the same day, as Divine Chocolate has just launched two new bars which for the first time will carry Halal certification.
