A VOLUNTEER who provided a lifeline for people with mental health problems was among the winners at an awards ceremony.

Ronnie Doran was named 'outstanding achiever' at the fourth annual Hounslow Homes Housing Heroes Awards, held last Friday (November 9).
He is a co-founder of Weare1, which runs social groups for people of all disabilities at venues across the borough.

The charity, set up after the sudden closure of the Star Centre, in Hounslow, gives people with mental health problems the chance to work alongside those with physical disabilities.

Former Star Centre users have told how they did not think they would still be alive were it not for the new charity.

A spokeswoman for Hounslow Homes said: "He dedicates all his time to helping others and goes beyond the call of duty to make sure no-one feels left out or discriminated against.

"He is a truly inspirational person who deserves to be recognised for his outstanding contribution to the community."

Elderly residents at Jessop House, whose mock Olympics became a YouTube sensation, won the award for best scheme/project of the year.
