A HISTORIC building "may" be retained by developers in new plans for the Willesden Green Cultural Centre.
Brent Council and developers Galliford Try are holding a consultation event at the library centre on Wednesday August 8 to show residents new plans for the site.
Previous plans were met with widespread opposition as the 1894 red brick building would have been demolished.
However, Galliford Try withdrew a planning application for the redevelopment stating that more time was needed to consult with people in the area.
In a statement released today (Tuesday) the council confirmed that the new sketches consider keeping the Victorian building.
A spokesperson said: "An open day will be held at Willesden Green Library on Wednesday to introduce the next stage of consultation and showcase the new proposals which will include examples of how the old library may be retained as part of the new building. The council will also launch a further round of consultation this week with residents and current Willesden library users. This will look at how the new building will be used as well as the design."
The event will take place at Willesden Green Library Lab from 11am to 8pm and architects will use feedback to submit new plans in September.
Liberal Democrat Willesden Green councillor Ann Hunter said: "Given the strength of feeling that local residents have shown I am pleased that, at last, the council is giving proper consideration to retaining the old library as part of the redevelopment. It is of paramount importance that whatever is agreed offers the high quality library and cultural facilities envisaged originally."
