MICHAEL Sobell Hospice (MSH) has acquired a much-needed van thanks to generous donations collected at nearby Waitrose stores.

The Ford Transit will be used to collect donations and deliver them to the MSH shops in Ruislip and Northwood.

David Mosely, business manager for MSH, said “We are absolutely delighted with the support we have received from local Waitrose branches. The money they have raised has enabled us to acquire this lovely new van and we are delighted to be associated with such a well-known and well-loved brand.”

The hospice now hopes to recruit volunteer drivers.

“We want to encourage businesses and people in the local community to donate larger items and to make it as easy for them as possible,” said Helen Elliot, general manager at MSH.

She says the van will help them manage stock at the two hospice shops and will allow them to consider opening a third.

The hospice, based at Mount Vernon Hospital, in Northwood, provides specialist palliative care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses. It relies on donations of £1.2million annually to maintain the centre, and says many services would not exist without fundraising and contributions from companies such as Waitrose.
