POLICE will crack down on nuisance bike riders in Northwood Hills following a fresh surge of complaints from residents.

Northwood Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team will join crash investigators to hold a day of action in the area on December 3.

They say 'everything on two wheels' will be targeted in a bid to crack down on dangerous and uninsured driviers.

Residents have complained of groups, mostly driving scooters and mopeds, speeding down streets such as Chesnut Avenue and Highland Road.

They are spotted doing wheelies and driving without helmets. The brazen bunch often pull off the stunts in full glare of the police.

Sergeant David Wright, of Northwood Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “They are know where we are based and often perform quite considerable wheelies as they go past.

“This is not only dangerous for themselves but for other road users as well.”

He said police are regularly called to disperse the bikers but they often escape by driving through the nearby park, where police cars cannot follow.

Residents complained of a similar problem last year and 16 bike riders were given orders warning them that if they committed the offence again their bike would be seized.

Mr Wright said he did not believe the latest group of riders was the same one.

He said: “We are working our way down the list of drivers and vehicles which have been reported to us but we have also decided to hold this day of action.

“Saturday is the day it seems to happen most often.”

Riders will also face action if they do not have a licence or the correct insurance.
