An eagle-eyed coach spotted former England football captain David Beckham at Westway Sports Centre.

Anton Gerald-Herbert, assistant sports coach at west London’s Metro Football Academy, spotted the Manchester United legend watching his son, Romeo, play tennis at the Ladbroke Grove centre on October 2, which is based opposite the academy.

The 21-year-old said: “We’re so close to the Westway I managed to spot him. I ran back into the classroom to get my phone and went over to introduce myself.

“I said ‘Hello Mr Beckham’. I really did! He was really approachable and seemed happy to have his photo taken.”

Unfortunately for pupils, many were working away from the academy on the day and missed out on meeting the icon.

Anton said: “When we told them on the Monday what happened, they said: 'Wow'.

“I’m a Man U supporter, so it’s even better. It’s great to see someone who’s been around for so long.

“I had a smile on my face the whole day!”
